Senator Edward M. Kennedy,
‘‘In the Middle East and too often today, the symbol of America is not the Statue of Liberty; it’s the prisoner standing on a box wearing a dark cape and a dark hood on his head, wires attached to his body, afraid that he’s going to be electrocuted..’’

An amazing article in the The Nation about two ladies - Rashida Bee and Champa Devi Shukla - who have been fighting the last 20 years to bring justice to those affected by the Bhopal tragedy.
Last week they won the Goldman Environmental Prize. My favourite quote is one by Champa Devi Shukla who thought someone somewhere had made a mistake. She said
. “We knew a few individuals who had won awards,” she explained, “[but] they were all educated people, spoke English and had e-mail accounts.”
What these two ladies have done over the last two decades is nothing short of sensational. They have taken on the mighty US corporation, the uncaring Indian Government - all the way to where they are just a few steps away from justice.
Even if they lose - they really have won.

L.K.Advani - our esteemed deputy Prime Minister - has said that the US army conduct (in Iraq) is disgusting.
This from the man whose Rathyatra catalyzed the Ayodhya demolition and the subsequent riots across India. This from the man who has not had the grace to apologise for what happened on 6th December over a decade ago.
This from the man who kept quiet when Gujarat burnt two years ago. A Home Minister who does not even censure the Chief Minister in whose state minority community people were picked out and killed, raped and murdered.
At least everybody from the US president to the secretary of state to the army high command has apologised. WHere is your apology Mr.Advani?
