Cry Telethon

Posted by: gargi   in Media, TV

the age of fund raising has arrived in India and the Indian people have proved more than willing to put their money where their mouth is and donate for those who have less than them. The Gujarat earth quake a few years ago was a case in point, as is the Tsunami disaster this year. Actors coming to gether to raise monies via concerts, broadcasters coming together to give away airtime, and sportstars pitching in with matches. The next ten days is full of spectacle. Hope that this leads to decent sums being collected for charity. And I hope that someone somewhere is monitoring how the monies collected is being used.

But, the event that I am most hopeful about is the Cry Telethon. Loosely based on the BBC’s Children in Need initiative, the Cry Telethon has its first public outing on the 26th of January from 1 p.m. on Sony Entertainment Television. Good to see a channel put charity above FCT.
