@ Shefaly . .... not about india was more in the vein of it just could be India.

indian news is an oxymoron. with an emphasis on the moron :(
i gave up watching TV news the day Abhishek and rani visited the studios of NDTV and presented the news as Bunty and Bubly. now i primarily watch DD news if atall.
there was this story of some news reporter asking Somnath Chaterjee (the speaker) his name after interviewing him for his views on something.

@Lekhni-am travelling this week, will pick it up on my return.

@Nita - i agree with you. the news media is terribly trite and superficial. i get more stuff out of blogs - in terms of research -- than news articles. they are seriously lacking.

It's funny what things stick in one's mind. I always try to observe myself when I pick up the paper. What is it that brings me to read the article behind the headline? Even if I do decide to read something serious, I am disappointed and I have to agree with Shefaly here.

Harini, although Robert Fox's article is not talking about India, having just come back from there, I have to say that Indian media is plumbing depths yet unknown to the British press yet (our neat broadsheet/ tabloid divide helps a bit towards it).. I was shocked, sad and angry to see there is practically no discourse, no analysis, not even an ability ask the right questions when interviewing somebody who matters.
