Politicians who shouldn’t appear on TV….

… because  they evoke violence in non violent people.

I am mostly non violent.

But, there are times when i watch or hear TV – not often, because I have severely curtailed news viewing since 26/11 – that I have this desire to reach through the screen and ‘bajaofy some poeple, kaan ke neeche “. I can’t help it. It is instinctive. It has nothing to do with their politics or the parties that they represent. It has more to do with who they are and the ’snake oil salesmanship’ that oozes out of their entire being.

I am sure that I am not alone in finding the bulk of the political class unbearable. But, these especially get me thinking of violence against my poor TV set. So in no particular order of their ability to irritate are my top nominees

Ravi Shankar Prasad – ‘let me tell you my good friend ” he starts, and then the whole conversation derails. He is patronizing, dogmatic and just the kind of person you don’t want to listen to. the kind of older uncle you have, who says ‘what do you know – when i was your age….”

Rajiv  Pratap  Rudy – if I was casting, he would be the used car salesman. His handling of Tharoor and Parrikar have been seriously bad – reeking of envy rather than opinion & have ended up making his party seem even more inept.

Manish Tiwari – I am quite sure that every time this man turns up in public and opens his mouth – he loses his party supporters. He is seriously irritating, ill informed and blunders where idiots fear to tread.  The first search result when you search for him is this, and what it says is apt for him :

Content will come here.Content will come here.Content will come here.Content will come here.Content will come here.

Abhishek Singhvi : the kid in class who wants to get the eye of the teacher, the one who will bring her a flower or an apple. Smart, the way a school debater is, and just as blinkered. Life is not about scoring points, nor about defending the indefensible – it is about the courage of conviction.

Brinda Karat : EVerytime I hear her, i have the urge to throw something heavy at the TV screen.  The kind of person who, along with her husband, has destroyed the ideological ingrity of the Communists.  When I hear her on China, I want to ask her “where do your loyalties lie ”

Ram Vilas Paswan - His desire for power has been so great, that he can fight on any side of the issue; maybe even simultaneously . He epitomizes the line ” how do you tell a politician is lying; his lips are moving” – more than anyone else i can recall in polity

Which of them get your goat ?

Manish Tewari, definitely. He happens to have been elected from the very place from which I’m posting this comment. There was a lot of feel good factor going here after he won. But all I’ve ever heard him saying is, “But Saagaarika!” on CNN-IBN. His facial expressions and the accent is very annoying to say the least.

lol :) i just try and forget that he exists. he has been awfully low profile. either that, or i seem to miss his appearances on TV.

What about ABU ASIM AZMI, I get irritated the moment I see his mug appear anywhere. Then we have JAYANTI NATARAJAN.

    MAYAWATI tops everyone else.

abu azmi – yes i forgot him.
jayanti, sushma and jaya jaitley are in the same cateogry – aunties from movies who want to run policy ! they are seriously irritating.
Mayawati – for me – is not irritating. she is just inexplicable !

Manish Tiwari is pretty much at the top. I think he decides beforehand what he is going to say and then keeps on and on and on repeating himself. The other person who I find rather annoying is this Suhel Seth bloke (even though he is not a politician, come to think of it, who is he that he has an opinion on anything and everything). He seems to be on air all the time on all the talk shows airing his opinions.

i agree.. atleast the other folks are there for a reason (to defend the indefensible that their parties have just done).. suhel seth is in the same category as mahesh bhatt.

Tsk, tsk. Asking the wrong question, are we? :-)

Asking ppl to find what’s wrong, especially politicians will give you a free-for-all cribbing session. Maybe we can have ask who all should be on television. And plz don’t say Shashi Tharoor. He’s still learning the political ropes.

Seshadri Chari – Another idiot, who opposes something just for the heck of it. Add to that list – Chandan Mitra (absolutely confused on tv) and Swapan Dasgupta (who’s Shakespearean English overtakes everything he wants to say – Bol Bacchan), Nilotpal Basu (I call him Walrus, because of his moustache peeping out like the Walrus’ teeth), Jayanthi Natarajan for sure, Tom Vadakan (remember, a ‘tweet is a loner’ guy ?).

U seem to have forgotten to mention a lot of Maharashtra politicians!

The mns will surely object! Athawale would too…

The congress wont mind, as it is they had to search far and wide to list out their achievements in the last decade.

The rc (not the liquor) would be too busy to be bothered as they will be keenly praising the all powarful…
and why not come election time and all vegi prices that were ruling above Rs 40 to 50 a kg have magically crashed to 12 and 16.

It is funny post real laughter riot…

    But the list is endless….

One thing I wish to add about Singhvi. He is one of India’s top notch lawyer just like his father. And whenever he walks into CLB wearing a Rolex and with a trail of junior lawyer, The poor Company Secretary defending loses the case…

But yes Honor is a different matter altogether

Sadly enough India’s Right, Left and Centre only are interested in scoring brownie points. They like moral honesty, and dedication to the nation. And to whom their loyalities lies Mandir, China and USA
