When I am in Chennai i visit Mylapore everyday, sometimes twice a day &#8211; much to my family&#8217;s amusement. When in Mumbai, visiting temples is not a part of my daily or even weekly routine. I manage a little roadside temple every so often &#8211; but it isn&#8217;t quite the same as going into a largish temple complex, and just sitting and absorbing the peace.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/3939192233\/\" title=\"kapaleshwara_ by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2485\/3939192233_62c6641d51.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"kapaleshwara_\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Kapleshwar Kovil &#8211; main entrance. Also called as the <strong><em>Mylapore <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/2536920722\/\" title=\"gopuram 2  by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3152\/2536920722_546f06d171.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"gopuram 2 \" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>the motif of peacocks are prevalent thro&#8217; the temple. It is said that Parvati took the form of a pea hen to woo her Lord in this sacred spot.<\/p>\n<p>A temple complex, rather than a single Temple, The Mylapore temple houses shrines for all members of the first family of the Universe.<br \/>\n(Shiva Parvati with Ganesha &amp; Kartikeya  there are shrines for all in the complex &#8211; along with a shrine for the navagraha)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/2536960078\/\" title=\"Gopuram 1 by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2131\/2536960078_367fc77db4.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"Gopuram 1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Around the temple complex sit a number of vendors of pooja material.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/3939230779\/\" title=\"flower seller 3 by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3454\/3939230779_2a771ca24d.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"flower seller 3\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the great things about this temple is its absolute cleanliness. No water on the floor, no need to look where you are going &#8211; in the fear of stepping on something yucky.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/2546811133\/\" title=\"The temple pond by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2136\/2546811133_b88f84716f.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" alt=\"The temple pond\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Dhwajastambha is at the entrance near the pond &#8211; golden, seemingly touching the skies and totally impressive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/gargi\/2536817394\/\" title=\"The Dhwaja Stambha by calamur, on Flickr\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2311\/2536817394_68b25abbfa.jpg?resize=375%2C500\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" alt=\"The Dhwaja Stambha\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n(the <strong><em>Dhwajastambha<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; or flag pole &#8211; at the Temple)<\/p>\n<p>There is something about this temple which makes me feel completely in balance with the universe.
