{"id":2331,"date":"2010-11-26T23:42:13","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/calamur.org\/gargi\/?p=2331"},"modified":"2010-11-26T23:42:13","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T18:42:13","slug":"2611-a-rememberance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/calamur.org\/gargi\/2010\/11\/26\/2611-a-rememberance\/","title":{"rendered":"26\/11 &#8211; a rememberance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This from<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/calamur.org\/gargi\/2009\/11\/26\/2611-just-another-date\/\"> last year&#8217;s blog post<\/a><\/strong> , and they say that change is the only constant !<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>November has been an eventful month in terms of remembrances. So much so that i have forgotten half the things that we are supposed to remember.  The most noise however, was for Nehru\u2019s &amp; then Indra Gandhi\u2019s  birth anniversary, the Babri Masjid Demolition \u2013 thanks to the tabling of the Liberhan committee report and now 26\/11.<\/p>\n<p>Like practically everything else that we do \u2014 we have lost the essence and the learnings of these people and events \u2014 and have reduced all the incidents to rituals \u2013 flowers, words, tributes \u2026. but, not much else .<\/p>\n<p>The old afflictions remain :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nOur leadership is  still dis united on core issues- everything is a party political issue . Political Capital is to be gained on every little event. National interest be damned.<\/li>\n<li>Corruption is still rampant \u2013 and National Security will be damned unless that is checked.<\/li>\n<li>We Still want to wail from rooftops on being the victim \u2013 it is time that we stopped being victimised and started fighting back.<\/li>\n<li>Our Media is still sensational \u2013 polarising opinion deliberately for ratings. Divide &amp; Rule still rules<\/li>\n<li>We still don\u2019t care about people who are not like us. Which is why 26\/11 is important and other dates when people died due to terror are not. Which is why the Taj and the Trident are important, but VT is not.<\/li>\n<li>Life is cheap. the poorer the life, the cheaper it is<\/li>\n<li>We don\u2019t believe in responsibility and accountability. It is always someone else\u2019s fault. Always.<\/li>\n<li>Rules are for others \u2013 not for us<\/li>\n<li>And finally, the most dangerous of them all \u2013 for us talk is action. We are so happy with bluster that we forget that action is needed so that what ever we say is taken seriously.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If other 26\/11?s are to be prevented \u2013 maybe introspection will help . maybe\u00a0things \u00a0need to be fixed \u00a0 within.  None of us can prevent a madman with a death wish from blowing himself up and us with him \u2014 what we can prevent is responses that make us like him.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the greatest tribute that we can give those who have died is to ensure that we don\u2019t make cosmetic changes or have knee jerk responses \u2014 but ensure that in the long term we are a safe and secure country that doesn\u2019t allow the murder of citizens to go unpunished<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This from last year&#8217;s blog post , and they say that change is the only constant !
