 <\/p>\n

Just one wave, and the footprints will be gone…<\/p>\n

Two waves down and all traces of the footprints will be erased…<\/p>\n

Time … it erases most things … collective memory, wisdom, culture, languages, relgions.<\/p>\n

I wonder how many forgotten ‘gods’ there are… Who worships Indra<\/strong><\/a> anymore. We pay ritual homage to him during a havan or a yanga, but does anyone pray to him for anything. Does he have ardent devotees today – yet at one time he had.<\/p>\n

Languages like Pali<\/strong><\/a> and Prakrit<\/strong><\/a> languages – the language spoken by most of North India – are possibly only alive in Universities. Yet, at one time they were the language of the aam admi.<\/p>\n

Who were Kalidas’<\/strong><\/a> contemporaries ? I am sure they were famous in their time.<\/p>\n

From our times, who will be remembered? What will survive? The internet makes it more difficult to forget – but with the volume of data – would anyone even bother to look? The nearest analogy would be that of going to the raddi shop and reading back issues of newspapers there…<\/p>\n

So may be there is a lesson for me here. It is the here and now. It is the journey. The smiles, the tears, the laughter, the conversation, the books, the family, the dog, people I care about …. The rest matters in terms of the small achievements that make me feel good about myself .. Maybe I need to get back to that beach ..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
