Ravana is a fascinating character. A mass of contradictions. The Son of a Brahmin, he became the greatest warrior in the whole Universe conquering the Earth, the Heavens. He greatly loved his wives , yet he coveted Sita. He was a great King – so much so before he dies Rama sends Lakshmana to Ravana to learn statecraft. (Rama, because of his exile, missed learning it from his father. And, Ravana imparts that knowledge)- yet his obsession with another man’s wife led to war. He was the composer of the Samaveda, the creater of the Rudraveena – immensely pious and very generous man. The one flaw that felled a King who spoke to God.<\/p>\n
