And why shouldn’t it. After Diwali and Christmas, it is the most in your face event. It is every bloody where.
There are hawkers selling heart shaped balloons on the streets, the local society has put up hearts everywhere. there are hearts at all the coffee shops, restraunts and bars. there are billboards screaming at you. local radio giving you the speil. advertisers coming up with special campaigns. card sellers making a killing. jewellery stores with special schemes.
It’s amazing how in a short span of maybe 10 years the marketeers have so completely taken over an otherwise arbid day.
Another interesting insight from my students. I asked them if they were doing something speical. they gave me that ‘huh. wrong generation” look! said that they hated the damn thing. (typical media attitude to their own creation, and that’s even before they start working). But that the only thing that may make them celebrate would be the Shiv Sena protesting outside the college.
