It is odd that a person who has spent her entire adult life communicating about others, finds it so difficult to write about herself. There is the Linkedin profile, of course, and the twitter bio – but the former is too corporate, the latter too twitterish . So, let me go with the basics

Who Am I ? Harini Calamur – native of Mumbai, India.

Who is Gargi ? – I am. It’s one of my two middle names. A long time ago when i started blogging, i used that as my id… and it stayed. When i grew up, i got curious about Gargi, and read up a bit about her. She was quite something else.

What do I do ? I have worked in the media for the best part of two decades. Handled both television, digital, and film. Most types of content – education, entertainment, and news. Made a movie. Made documentaries. I write. I consult on content strategy, and i teach.  I teach mainly media linked subjects – be it traditional or digital media. My current areas of interest are the intersection of technology, media, and audiences, and

What is POV about? As the name suggests, it is about a Point of View — mine. …. both in pictures & in words….Do browse and drop a line ….I write mainly on media, politics, gender, and technology. I also review some of the media, that i consume

  1. Hi Harini, quite a profile. Interesting info on Tibet but boycotting Olympics would be quite an extreme knee jerk reactive which in turn might have a counter effect on the protesters. I feel China is holding its batton and not coming too hard on the protestors. If we boycott, the chinese will have nothing to lose and they’ll start a special pogrom then for the protestors.

Right now we need to engage and slowly build the bridges.

I noticed you in my bloglog widget. Thanks for checking out my site.

  2. hi Tarun
    thank you….
I am not quite sure of that. The counter i have for that is South Africa and Apartheid…. at some level the international boycott helped in dismantling the regime….be it in terms of sport or in terms of economics…
With China, I am not sure about building bridges… the most we can hope for is cordial neighborly behavior not friendship…. and, it gets a bit much if our ‘cordial neighbor’ occupies thousands of kms’ of our territories and their paid stooges (CPI-m) holds the country for ransom….
I really don’t think that we will boycott the Olympics…the left won’t let us 🙂

  3. Gargi – any memories around Filmistan Studio shooting with Mukesh Malik and having garam chai with the gang? Add one more monsoon song to your list ‘ Aate Jaate Khoobsoorat Aawara Sadko Pe’ from Anurodh. Rajesh Khanna describing his chance meeting with Simple Kapadia on radio….

  11. Malaysia Rs 18 per litre
In India it’s Rs 78 per litre

Why this difference in Asia itself ? World Market CRUDE Oil is not the reason for this. It’s the Gain for private owners? As we are the general public, or Common Man as R.K.Laxman wud hv said, we have to raise our voice, let’s raise thru Emails, Facebook, BBM & messages!!.

Forward this to all Indians who care.
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROrL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE ” Thursday 31 MAY ” SHOULD BE DECLARED “STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND ” DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
