The state that has the highest per capita consumption of alcolhol is Gujarat. It is also the state that enforces prohibition. Sale of alcohol and its consumption are banned.
And of course it is ruled by the religious right – the Modi led BJP government’s claim to fame was the riots in Gujarat last year.
So it was very amusing to read that large volumes of alcohol were seized from the home of the Minister for Religious Places and Cow Protection (no less).

Read about the protest in Times-newspaper and was really imperessed that there are the peoples who feel same like me that it is against fundamental rights to impose prohibition on gujarat peoples. How come that some one in maharastra can have liquor but just because we stay in gujarat we cannot. is not this a form of discrimination.? If put a law it should be for entire country , not just one state.How can a government decide what should one eat and drink? If liquor is so harmful , why not a countrywide prohibition? Get blood samples of all gujarat politicians ,I bet more than 90% will show proofs of liquor consumptions. When we all know almost all people in gujarat enjoy their liquor why this law? I thnk this must be the only law which is against both public and the government. Both public as well as the government is loosing a large revenue just for this irrelevent law.
