Laloo Prasad – the Railway Minister – did something quite amazing today. Amazingly good, I hasten to add. He went into Railway Bhavan and sent home employees who turned up late. He also warned that repeated late comers will be disciplined. Laloo said

Soon after I came to Rail Bhawan at 9.30 am, I ordered that all the gates of the Bhawan be closed. All those who came late were stopped at the gates. We found that 453 non-gazetted and 66 gazetted employees came late. They were sent back to their homes

I am so glad that this Government – starting with the Prime Minsiter – is laying down the line with (un) civil servants. If I kept the kind of timings that many in Government service keep, I would have probably been sacked.
A couple of quick observations on this – Laloo Prasad Yadav is one of the most intelligent and ruthless politicians that we have. He has his finger on the pulse of both the people and the media. And he manipulates both beautifully. The intelligensia – both liberal and rightwing – hate him, which probably means that he is going to run the country sooner or later.

I just wonder whether the PM should transfer errant MP and star, Govinda to work under Laloo to learn a bit of punctuality.
