Lots of people, lots of personalities – and some very random thoughts :
- Did anyone do a dimple share analysis. I wonder how many youth votes got converted by Rahul & Priyanka’s dimples 🙂
- Can Modi’s speeches attract entertainment tax – he is possilby one of the best orators – if you like the equivalent of a Head Prefect in a school debate, score points.
- Was there a shoe lash vote?
- Is the difference between Rahul and Varun, the difference between Sonia and Maneka ?
- Should we all buy shares in TV set manufacturing companies – given that it swung TN to the DMK ?
- Has the South Mumbai chaterati realised that outrage is not a substitute for involvement. Get off your collective butts and do something. shooting your mouth off in a TV studio is not action, it is hot air.
- Do Pranay and Barkha own shares in the Congress Party – why were they behaving as though they won. Distance, sweeties, Distance.
- If the CPI(M) does not believe in resignations – does it mean that their inept leaders will turn up in a gunny bag somewhere – in lots of pieces ?
- Will Advani actually turn up on the first day of Parliament and face MMS on the other side – especially after those terrible personal attacks ?
- Will Lallo be the speaker ? it will be good fun to see him control the House 🙂
Dekthe rahiye, the Dance of Democracy – only on Parliament TV 🙂
Modi disappointed me with his speeches, he got involved in the budhiya- gudiya thing. He is much better in one to one talk.
Not only Barkha and Pranoy, Rajdeep Sardesai behaved the same way.
Laloo would be good entertainment with his characteristic style of scolding. Good lesson for him too, he will understand what poor Somnath da went through thanks to his unruly MPS.
Random, but thoughtful thoughts! 😀
Difference between Sonia-Maneka and Varun-Rahul = Fair and Lovely..
Laaloo as speaker would be amazing. The citizens of this country will probably stay happy and stay glued to television when the parliament ssessions are on.. Amazing isn’t it? 🙂
@prerna – modi is now being made the fall guy for the losses. but, the problem was a strategy that was not thought through. People like jaitley and shourie who made the unpardonable error of projecting a different PM half way through, Advani and his personal attacks, and no alternative provided. We are not the Congress is not a strategy – who are we and what do we stand for is the strategy !
@mahendra – 🙂
@ revathy – they are both farex babies !!
@ Prasoon – Laaloo as speaker is making the naughtiest boy in class the monitor !!
Media infact most of it has been pro congress because media wants funds fii holdings permissions and favors from political partys.
It is interesting to see the pro communist ndtv switch sides.
Bjp campaign was centred on advani and modi – with 30% population against him they were bound to fail. if u look at their manifesto it was way better than congress.
Plus the three new satraps,Raj Thackarey , Chiranjivi and DMDK boss Vijayakanth whose vote cutting gave the boost Congress needed …
One cannot forget that agriculture plays a big role in politics and the kind of fiscal spending that has gone into the loan maafi fertilizer subsidy and nregs ie something like 4+% of gdp and the new pay packets for govt staff has given congress a real and placebo goodwill effect and this spending in good times, i think is unsustainable and is bound to hit the nation now especially in recession.
Overall it was luckily an enabling mandate for the congress
sadly they seem to be frittering it away as the first signs are negative that from the cabinet swearing in which shows continuity / business as usual with the same old people getting ministry’s.
congress wants to introduce net censorship a big negative
worse Pranab is being given the fm post in a recession, and montek or rangrajan seem not interested.
Remember Pranab was the fm during the utis reliance share acquisition scam …plus the reliance bear cartel bust had happened then using funds from a caymen island entity.
NDTV has always been pro Congress. they may have familial ties with the Karats, but their heart has been Congress.
a lot of the other channels are quite pro BJP – but, with liberalisation and every body being able to own a channel (read political party ) that impact has been reduced.
i think that what did the BJP in was four things in the way they communicated their agenda:
a) amongst the middle class – the focus on Hindutva not the economy. in times of recession talk about relevant things not about temples and black money.
b) amongst the young – the Ram Sene silliness. although the Ram Sene stood against the BJP – they are all seen as the Sangh
c) amongst the Muslims/ right of center vote – Varun Gandhi . what were they thinking off
d) Amongst the business class – their lack of focus on the economy. A gujarati trader, who has traditionally voted BJP, told me that he voted Congress because of the economy. Now, while one trader may not make a vote bank – i am sure there were enough who thought that way
I am not sure i agree with your misgivings. i think that there is a mandate for development and economic security. i think that the Govt. will go about achieving that. it would be interesting to see how they cope with the fiscal deficit and manage development & growth. i am glad that they are firm with unfair demands from their allies.
finally, on Reliance – you had Pramod Mahajan and the license to Reliance mobile that broke all the rules. each side has its rule breakers, i hope that this election marks the beginning of clean politics.
i agree most people voted congress for the economy and stable govt , i would have too if not for a deora who had made big promises last election which was his maiden one and not shown his face this election.
Ndtv is pro congress but it was always pro commis too its debates its passive steering was always pro commis … esp balkra nomics.
Why r u so defensive of the congress?
there are statistics backing my assumptions, no wonder a congress which got a post poll estimate of 185 and without the three they would have been somewhere there
on Reliance i agree – they are like gods – there are no closed doors for them, no one can touch them
even u talk about them meeting heads of state and party
but at that time they were in some shit and they were bailed out using my funds … and it was all ok and Pronob defended the act of the trustees ,while discretely removing the govt board member before the act … i dont defend bjp either they were also in that mess with the sale of shares by k10 to uti
of shares like global tele and dsq but 90s was the start of the rot of uti64 which lost a lot of Aam Admis hard earned money
which they could not get a chance to set off
i like most middle class people voted for congress after the uti mess and was infuriated when the bjp had brought a provision saying that cap gains from uti64 would be exempt which pissed me off because it was cheating as almost all small investors lost money there and many seniors … ( btw i had almost exited uti64 before the big fall so hardly lost anything substantial)
When u say
I am not sure i agree with your misgivings. i think that there is a mandate for development and economic security. i think that the Govt. will go about achieving that.
I just hope and wish and pray that ur right for everyone’s good.
i hope that this election marks the beginning of clean politics.
– i dont think it will not even my in wildest dreams
Ps mahajan also made mobiles accessible to all
i know he was a clever person a rascal for some , bit i still remember what a gujju said to his friend while eating a sandwich – Let them eat but let them get work done … t r ballu did also eat so did laloo and a whole lot of others – but what good did he do for the people ?
