…. some random photographs of women from around India…
The Entreprenuer – One of the things that fascinates me about India are the number of female entrepreneurs. Women who see a business opportunity and plug it in with a product/service….
here is one of them – enroute to Karla Caves. There is a 350 step climb to the caves and the temple … and this lady makes and sells butter milk and lemon juice. Just the kind of light refreshment that quenches the thirst and is healthy.
The Tour Guide – at Dakshinchitra in Tamil Nadu … knowledgeable, with a sense of humour and a great sense of sales – if she was in the corpo world she would possibly be the head of sales of some company.
Self Help Group – and local governance – women in villages are far more aware of their rights, and far more willing to do something about taking charge of their destinies – these ladies from Himachal Pradesh are doing just that ….
And, the next lot is the most beautiful women I have ever seen…. ever ….
a woman from the Lahmani tribe in Maharashtra – her skin has never seen make up and that shows 🙂
This lady came to the little village in Himachal as a bride in the 1960’s. when i visited the village – a road had just come up -built by workers paid by NREGA, strengthened by funds provided by the National Disaser Management Authority (that village is in a valley and prone to being affected by landslides) – she told me “ab hum such mein keh sakte hain, ki hum azaad hai ….
From Nepal – a woman who ran a tea stall and booze thela next to the hotel we were staying.
we had gone for a walk to film the area adjoining the resort. establishing shots and the like. we stopped over at this stall. had some lovely chai, smoked and shared tales of life….
Ladies – thank you for showing me that life is beyond the material and the superficial ….and women’s liberation is beyond a lifestyle statement ….happy women’s day
“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition” said somebody. Cheers to these ladies and to each one of us 🙂

Your post is very relevant especially today in the light of the latest census. Today we still have sexual exploitation, female infanticide etc. Thanks for highlighting the achievements of these women! Vey inspiring!
