In my 25 years+ of work experience, I have had to take the call on which people to lay off. I looked them in the eye, apologized for not being able to make it work, and parted with the hope that we will work together sometime in the future. Many of those teammates from them are still a part of my life. And, I have seen this happen elsewhere. Some companies handle layoffs with grace and empathy; while others don’t. Twitter, a week after the Musk takeover, is the latter.
What is happening in Twitter today, is a disgrace. People on their way to work were told to stay where they were, and people were fired with no notice. Reuter’s reports “Twitter Inc temporarily closed its offices and cut workers’ access to internal systems on Friday after telling employees they would be informed by email later in the day about whether they were being laid off.”
Apparently the mail that was sent to all employees was as follows. note – this hasn’t been verified by me, but enough handles i trust are carrying it.
In India 250+ people will be looking for jobs on Monday, as Twitter has sacked practically its entire India team.
In an unrelated tweet, Musk has vented –
