It is election time in Bihar, so the status quo will be maintained. But, i would like to see the entire panchayat stand trial for “accessory tothe crime” – and see them sentanced. This story from the ToI:
The punishment for rape in Bihar’s Banka district, it seems, is entirely borne by the victim.
At a ‘panchayat’, a raped woman was publicly made to lick the spit of her husband, who had instantly pronounced talaq when she told him of the crime committed on her.
The rapist, meanwhile, was let off by the clergy with a fine of Rs 15,000 after he refused to marry the victim.
The police said they were unaware of the incident.
