Got this mail from Patrix in the wee hours of this morning

We are shutting down DesiPundit effective midnight (CST) June 15th, Tuesday. It has been a fun five years and we have enjoyed every moment. We wish to thank all Community Members for sharing your content with our readers and I hope we managed to win you some readers.

Over at DesiPundit, people have moved on to other things and time & resources haven’t been as plentiful for those who have remained. The Indian blogosphere and presence on other social media networks has expanded greatly and in our experience, it is no longer possible for human-powered aggregators to keep up; at least on a part-time volunteer basis.

We all will be around on our respective blogs and Twitter accounts and will continue to reading your excellent blogs.

Thank you for reading and contributing.

regards,
DesiPundit

It was a long journey from the blogmelas from almost a decade ago, to Desi Pundit… and now, like all good things, it comes to an end.

i personally, made some good friends. read some interesting blogs – and finally moved away from MSM.

Good luck to all that put Desipundit together. and thank you for all the effort.

btw that (mis) quote is from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Stuff that made me – in no particular order – think, chortle, smirk, snigger , slurp, nod my head wisely. I shan’t identify which is what …coz it will be fun a year later to figure :)

a) Economic Woman
looks at different ways to see the world through worldmapper. The current way of seeing the world – even geographically – is skewed. Europe looks a whole lot bigger than it is, Australia a whole lot smaller. Even geography is politically appropriate.

b) TRP’s (or the equivalent) for Youtube - except that given the nature of the net it will be more accurate than TRP’s (which depend a lot on human intervention in terms of monitoring) – whether it manages to capture the vastness of the TG and it’s propensity to make things up on the net is a different matter.

c) It is nice to see the Indian Government get it right . It has been twice in a row that it has bucked international hype and saved itself from wasting more of tax payer money. The first was a reticence on the SWF . The second was staying away from the $100 laptop project. I remember having a conversation in 1995 with someone who wanted to put a computer in every rural school in India in the next 12 months — and the question I had was basic “Where is the electricity ?”. A vision is a great idea, but as SR put it once — to have sight (of issues) is as important.

d) The trouble with blogging is that you tell a lot about yourself to the world. Sometimes, when you decide to take potshots at others — you also end up revealing your immaturity…. Aamir Khan and the Big B blog ! Both seem to be obsessed with Shah Rukh Khan … I wonder why ? Oops … ok I didn’t read this earlier … That couldn’t have been easy …! Wow – in today’s day and age …it is nice to see such grace.

e) Salary delay for IPL stars - :) As part of the entertainment media they ought to know that normal payment terms are 60 to 90 days after telecast !

f) And, finally – it’s not the age, but the mileage :)

Last Week
The last 10 days have been a fair tech disaster for me….. the site was down from the 2nd till the 9th because my previous hosting service got attacked by something while moving servers. The fact that they hadn’t informed me ( i am not sure of their other customers) about the move, and possible downtime – was exacerbated by complete and utter ineptitude while dealing with the crisis. I dealt with 7 different people over the 7 day period – each of whom was vaguer than the previous one….. And each of them responded, because of a mail from me … not because, they as service providers wanted to keep a customer in the loop…..This is a classic case study on customer mismanagement. I can understand and empathise with technical problems, I can’t with customer mismanagement. It is forgetting basics in business…

Finally when they restored the site…. there wasn’t even a message saying service restored. Therefore, I did what any paying  customer would do ….. changed the service provider.  When the site finally came back up…  i changed nameservers, moved host……..and was out before you could say blog……

Now

Moved to  a web hosting service provider called hostican.com. 200 GB space, 2000 GB bandwidth and great customer support (the last two days have been blissful in terms of restoring my site) — all for around Rs.2000 per annum. Hope that I don’t have to move for the next few years.

Am going to be doing up my new home over the next couple of days…..
