This new gourmet delight is courtsey of the US army that is looking at an effective way of ensuring that its forces don’t go hungry, and are not bogged down by carrying too much water. The BBC reports that the technique is based on osmosis, where a filter would keep back the urea and other toxic materials, and let pure water pass and rehydrate the food.
Reminds me a bit of Frank Herbert’s Dune where the Fremen wear stilsuits to the same effect.
