…. there are Martians high above our skies – just beyond the sight of our satellites – who are using lasers to melt our icecaps.
Of course, there is no such thing as Global Warming, it is a figment of imagination of those who are jealous of development and conspicious consumption. On the other hand, Martians are a very real threat to society and civilisation as we know it. Their slow melting of the Arctic Ice Cap is proof of this.
All nations should rearm – prefrebly buying arms from British and American Firms, buy larger vehicles that are less fuel efficient – as a symbol of our defiance against the evil Martians – and, of course, get ready for the invasion.
Kyoto – isn’t that Tokyo spelt wrongly?
While there very much is a thing such as Global Warming, the debate is over whether we have accelerated it or not. And the jury is still very much out on this one. There are a lot of studies out there which show that the Ice Caps would be melting anyway. 20 years ago, Scientists were worried about another Ice Age due to Global Cooling. Who is correct? I’m not informed enough to have an opinion, but dismissing the other outright? Whatever information we have about Climate change goes back to the Industrial Revolution, so what does “above average” and “below average” really mean? What scale are we using to determine this? Humans themselves have barely been on this earth, and lord only knows what kind of environmental changes the Earth has gone through since its birth.
Walt Meier, also at the Colorado centre, said: “Having four years in a row with such low ice extents has never been seen before in the satellite record. It clearly indicates a downward trend, not just a short term anomaly.”
No. It clearly indicates a downward trend since satellites were employed to track the changes in ice Maybe this a is a 50 year fluctuation? Is there any evidence to suggest otherwise? 50 years ago, we didn’t have satellites to track ice melthing. Can you say for sure that this is not cyclical? That for some time the ice melts, then for some other time it starts freezing again? And what is “Short-Term” in Earth-time? I’m not dismissing the fact that maybe Human Beings have wreaked havoc on the planet. It’s is far from being clear cut.
Could be a change in the axis (it is supposed to have tilted0
could be a natural process – hot earth, grows colder, grows hotter again.
you are right no one knows.
but, what we do know is what we do has an impact on the environment. we can’t change that. but, what we can do is be a bit more sensible about what we use and how much we use of it.even if consumption of fuel does not lead to global warming – it is still a finite resource – go easy on its use.
Dismissing human impact on the environment – as many opponents of Kyoto do – is silly, as is saying that there can be no development.
somehow ordinary people in the world are caught between two screaming sides 🙂
