Upgraded to WordPress 2.5 over the weekend, and its a dream.
- An intuitive and clean user interface,
- better organisation of menus,
- a dashboard that looks inviting
- One click upgrade for plugins
- Once click adding of media, including video
In addition to upgrading, i cleaned up my plugins – deleted all the stuff I don’t use, added some new ones… here are some that I use:
- Akismet – the spam buster… It has caught well over 10k spam and counting.
- All in One SEO Pack – If you want Search Engines to find your stuff…
- Angusman’s Feed Copyrighter –
- Drop Down Archive Widget – When you have over 4 years of blogging archived, this is a good space saver 🙂
- Feedburner Feedsmith – helps you track your subscribers. I use it along with the Feedburner Widget that helps readers subscribe to the feed
- Share This –
- Simple Tags – allows you to create Technorati Tags
- Sphere Related Content – allows you to figure who else on the web puts out similar content or content on similar subjects
- StatPress – Real time stats for your blog. resides in your dashboard..
- WordPress Database Backup — if you are like me, you need this 🙂
- Related Posts –
- WYSI WordPress -a sophisticated editor that is user friendly.
To all the people who wrote these plugins /widgets … thank you !
Backup your db using myPHPadmin from your cPanel because I’ve heard stories of backup failing using the plugin although it seems to do everything fine. One guy lost two years worth of content.
Also, adding Technorati tags doesn’t help much. They crawl your content nevertheless. Use the inbuilt WordPress tags instead.
ouch.. that sounds terrible… will check on PHPadmin
i do use WP tags. the technorati tags are an old habit 🙂
Oh yes we all need a update with this one…
Newez nice collection of plugins…
Hi Harini,
Is your site hosted by wordpress itself or hosted by a third party? I ask because my host keeps telling me that my upgrades will be automatic but they haven’t happened yet. Did you replace all your wordpress files manually, or is there a trick one can use to escape the drudgery?
I tried a while ago to update my system files but the whole thing crashed and had to be revived from MySQL.
Thanks in advance for any help.
hi rimi
it is hosted by a third party. i replaced my wp files manually … there are tricks ( i am sure) but i don’t know them.
