Sach Ka Samna on Star Plus has created a storm in a tea cup.
It’s a show that is a format adaptation – based on the ‘Moment of Truth’.
I saw it last week. I liked the way that it has been adapted for India. The family issues brought out, are done in a manner that strikes a chord. Very desi in nature. I am not in a minority when it comes to liking the show – a sizable chunk tuned into the show last week – giving Star Plus ratings.
The show that had a one-hour run on its first day (15 July) has managed to fare well for Star Plus with a debut rating of 4.59. The 10.30 pm half-hour show has also averaged the week ended 18 July with a TVR of 4.3, reveals the latest Tam data (HSM, C&S 4+).
It’s a show that reflects the changing nature of Indian society. Middle class Indians have agreed to come on the show and talk about their deepest, darkest secrets. For money. Lots of it.
Audiences are enjoying watching it – and are coming back for more. Both, people who are on the show & their families and friends, as well as those who tune in are mainly Indians. Ergo, they follow ‘Indian culture’ . But, the politicians have got their knickers langots in a twist.
Imagine being a politician and saying – ‘hum such ka samna’ ka virrudh kartein hai ! Must be the first time that they ever told the truth. What are they afraid of ? that the people will strap them to a polygraph and ask them” is project mein aapne cut liya” or “aapne section 377 toda tha, when it was illegal” or “aapki naukrani 13 saal ki hai ” or what ever . That would definitely be interesting to watch !
Their contention is, that it is against our culture and borders on the obscene and vulgar ! Seriously, who are they to say that 4.5% of the viewing audience (the top show rates around 5.3 TVR) aren’t a part of Indian culture or don’t follow it
And, it’s not as though we are in silly season. In a week :
- When there was an incomprehensible agreement with Pakistan in Egypt.
- When Kasab named names
- When there were serious safety concerns on how the metro is being built
- There were issues on the moon mission – Chandrayaan
- When Mumbai’s preparedness against rain came to naught
- When inflation went down and prices went up
- When teachers in Maharashtra are on strike because this is the only state in which the 6th Pay Commission has not been implemented
- When incomprehensible deals were being signed with the USA
What is the most important issue that you think that the opposition – SP & BJP – found to raise in Parliament. Sach ka Samna ??? Why ????
No. Walking out of Parliament is not Opposition. It is not turing up to do your job. It’s bunking !
Next election onwards, we should have two ballots – one whom we want to see win and the second as who we think will be the best opposition. Or rather – just one and that too the latter. Anyone who get least votes on ‘opposition’ seat automatically becomes the leader or something of that sorts.
incompetent and lazy opposition is doing more harm to the country than what a good government can do.
great idea. but the problem is that with the kind of netas that we have – everyone will sit in opposition 🙂
And, then the country will run itself – which may not be such a bad idea !!
I haven’t watched the show hence no comment on it. The question asked in original videsi version will ruin the life of person if they are asked in India. Vinod kambli has tasted a controversy just in the start of this season. This hot seat is really too HOT to handle. Still politician on this show will generate much popularity than usual common man on chair. And recent election and Librahan commision report has given enough moment of truth to BJP.. 😛
“Walking out of Parliament is not Opposition. It is not turing up to do your job. It’s bunking !” Quite like that punch line.
🙂
even if we don’t look at their political lies – but personal ones it may be interesting
“have you ever visited a prostitute’
‘have you ever been unfaithful to your wife/husband’
imagine the politicians squirming out of that one. On the other hand, they are such consummate liars, they might beat the polygraph or get it banned 🙁
Sometimes, I feel the arms of those who’re tirelessly wielding culture as if it were Hanuman’s Gada (club) should be amputated.
gadhon pe gada might be an interesting show 🙂
AFAIK, it was raised by an MP from SP or BSP, why do you bring in BJP for the same? Did they?
Hi Vijay.
all of them 🙁 here – http://snipurl.com/nuief
it isn’t an attack on the BJP or SP or ABC – just a lament that we have no one in Parliament who keeps an eye on the Government. That is the role of the opposition – oppose policy against national interest – not moral policing !
I’m really curious to what extend the reality shows will go. I’m sure at this rate, one day you can watch homicide, rape etc live on TV.
I saw the said reality show and the first impression was to break the t.v, but since i invested my hard earned money into it, I smartly changed from that channel, promising never to return to it again, not even by mistake.
And on opposition, I wonder where they are when our women get raped by policemen, when our people die due to epidemics, when we dont get drinking water, when essential commodities are priced so high that common people cannot afford them anymore, let alone the issues you have mentioned.
@Harini,
I always thought we get the rulers we deserve; now it seems we get the opposition we deserve too!
In a week where the PM went and displayed utter clueless-ness about foreign policy indeed Negotiations 101, our prime concern, cutting across the party divide was Sach Kaa Saamna and such.
You know it is my earnest desire to have you recant on MMS 🙂 but I might end up re-thinking my support for the largest party in opposition before that ):
i want to sit on such ka samana chair please tell me how.please send my email. thank u
good for next life.
