The report released by the World Bank today, shows a sharp increase in the Ease of Doing Business.

 

A jump of 30 places in the charts is nothing to scoff about. And, India seems to have improved on every parameter

there is a detailed 136 page report that you can download from the site. It is very detailed.

These are the figures for Mumbai, where i live, and hope to do business.

While these are the figures for Delhi

 

For some strange reason, and i haven’t been able to figure out why, there is one less procedure to start a business in Delhi, than Mumbai. But, despite that it takes half a day less to start a business in Mumbai, than Delhi. And, like everything else, it costs more to start a business in Mumbai than Delhi.

As i skimmed through the report, somethings that caught my eye. And, these are things we know 🙂

 

I actually grimaced when i saw this. We all know what a pain it is. The report lays down exactly what all needs to be done. It is such a pain that it is simpler to outsource the whole process for a fee. And, even then, be very sure, you will do something wrong. It is impossible to comply with BMC rules – and I am guessing those rules are in place just to catch you out.

It takes more time, about 20 days more to get the same thing done in Delhi.

The report states upfront, the kind of business they have considered for the study (and this is standard across the world)

Is a limited liability company (or its legal equivalent). If there is more than one type of limited liability company in the economy, the most common among domestic firms is chosen. Information on the most common form is obtained from incorporation lawyers or the statistical office.

Has an office space of approximately 10,000 sq feet, is domestically owned, has 10-50 employees a month after it started operations. And, has a company deed at least 10 pages long .
