In Today’s Recommended Reads – China’s EV policy, Cow Protection, Motherhood, Agenda Setting

As India moves towards Electric Vehicles, China seems to be putting brakes on the massive subsidies given to them. China has been for long subsidising EV’s, and i think the result of this policy may be, an over supply of EV’s.

Ever wonder the cost of a cow politics that considers “cow to be the mother” – beyond the lynchings, social unrest, and economic terror. The FT has a very insightful piece on the economic cost, and implications,  of Gau Raksha – both by the state, and by gangs.

The Women’s Web has a piece on why the glorification of motherhood is problematic. My two bits, if society didn’t glorify motherhood, very few women would be inclined to have them. Imagine bloating to twice your size, have your hormones go nuts, suffer depression, and having to sit with the kid to study for exams (once again). The mythology is needed to ensure that civilisation continues. 🙂

And, I am re-reading some academic stuff. Not just for the papers i teach, but also to brush up. The Agenda-Setting Role of the Mass Media in the Shaping of Public Opinion, is what i am re-reading.

i am tripping on the Guardian’s photo section. it has such brilliance. This from an environment photo competition.
