Reading Recommendations 25th November – Padmavati, Digital Transformation, Collapsing Antarctic Glaciers,Egypt Bombings, and Flat Earth Debate

Today’s Recommended Readings – Padmavati, Digital Transformation, Collapsing Antarctic Glaciers, Egypt Bombings, and the renewed debate over the Flat Earth debate (why is there even one) ?

There has been much debate on Padmavati, mostly polarised. Each side stating their position. Makarand Paranjpe’s piece is nuanced. He looks at the need for freedom of expression, and the state upholding that right; while making a case for not whitewashing history. And, he is right – India needs a free and frank discussion of the past. not for retribution in the present, but simply putting the past to rest. I am afraid we won’t move on unless we do.

The Saudi Night of the Long Knives seems to be over. For now. When you have so many sons all of whom want to claim the throne, there is little hope of long term peace. Unlesss you abdicate, abolish the monarchy, and become a democratic republic. But, I digress. The current victors promise to return Islam to it’s moderate form. And, i hope they do. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and it’s obscene form of Wahabism has wrecked havoc in the world. Just look at this bombing in Egyptian Sufi Mosque, and the death toll. And, primarily in Muslim nations. I always believed, the day KSA runs out of oil, it’s neighbours will band together, and finish them off.

The issue of labour rights in India has been ignored by main stream media. When big business owns the media, will the media cover labour rights violations by big business (or any business). The Wire has a good piece on it.

If you have the time, and i say it because it is 22+ pages long – KMPG has a primer on digital transformation.

Why shooting without a plan is a great idea.

And, finally two related stories. The common link is stupidity and ignorance as being treated as a view worthy of a response. There is a bunch of people who claim that the earth is flat. No, i am not joking. And serious magazines, run columns that debunk the claims.

Unless you are Donald Trump, Climate Change is very real. How Real ? Well two glaciers are melting in the Antarctic and is possibly going to flood coastal cities. I live in a coastal city. How about you ?
