Reading Recommendations 2nd December – Net Neutrality, Bitcoin, Bored Panda, Scoop Whoop, and UPI

The BJP sweeps the UP civic polls, including Amethi. The BSP seems to be showing signs of reviving. The SP and the INC need to get their act in place, if indeed there is an act to get in place. While UP is done and dusted, Gujarat is next to go to the polls. While i haven’t been paying too much attention to the state elections, one thing is apparent – the elections seem more on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress from Nehru’s era, than on today. As Seema Chishti points out, the focus on the Gujarat Model seems missing.

There is another fine piece on TRAI’s net neutrality recommendations. India takes the lead in shaping global Net Neutrality principles, UPI crosses 105 million transactions; and, the scroll has a lovely piece on the art of Manaku

When buzzfeed first came in to our news feeds, it’s expressed purpose was helping people beat boredom (at work). As time went it was no longer enough to successfully post listicles, and pet videos, or inane quizzes, – they wanted the respect of ‘serious journalism’. The space vacated by them has been taken on by Bored Panda – a company of 41, working from Lithuania. The NYT has a piece on that. While Bored Panda is going from strength to strength, closer home ScoopWhoop is not. It is trimming news operations and laying off people.

With bitcoin reaching new heights (a single bitcoin is close to 7 lakh rupees), more calls for regulation are being heard. Also, what is being heard is calls to shut it down. And, when those voices belong to Nobel Prize winners, then it is likely that it is going to be Establishment v/s Bitcoin.
