The unthinkable has happened. Shia’s and Sunnis’ in Iraq have put behind them decade old divisions and come together to fight for independence. I never thought that I would see a full blown struggle for independence in my life time.

Iraq should be truly greatful to the United States. At one stroke they have managed to stop religious and ethnic divisions – and unite warring factions against the outsider.

Someone, somewhere forgot to remind the Allies that in that part of the world, one law reigns supreme:

Me against my brother. Me and my brother against our cousin. Me, my brother and my cousin against the tribe. Me, my brother, my cousin and our tribe against the other tribes. Me, my brother, my cousin, our tribe and its allies against the rest of the world.
