It almost seems that the spread of stories in the main stream media is viral. An idea that jump from on-line to paper to magazine to on line again. Usually within a short span – say a fortnight or a week. This of course does not apply to leading epitomes of journalism like Outlook and India Today who publish an equally inane coverstory on Parenting Pressures in the same week.
Over the last fortnight the New York Times had published their take on blogging, and bloggers across the world responded to the article on NYT. This week it is the turn of Time Magazine. In a fond article entitled Meet Joe Blog – the authors look at the genesis and popularity of blogging as a method of expression and networking. They observe that:
Why are more and more people getting their news from amateur websites called blogs? Because they’re fast, funny and totally biased
And that i think is the key. I am personally tired of politcally neutered (as opposed to neutral) view points. I am tired of stupid technobable and blinkered statistics – from all sides of the political spectrum. I would rather get the opinion warts and all – rather than the classic closing gambit of most articles – what will happen in the future – only time will tell.
And finally for all those of us who are bloggers in India- we have arrived too. The Times of India ran a truly terrible story on blogging some time last week. I guess that the group will soon be offering free blog spots – complete with pops ups coming out of every click – and use the ToI to publicize it as thought it was the only blog site in the world. Shobha De blogs about her famous parties, and Simi Garewal about Rekha’s interview, and Avanti Birla blogs about loss and grief…… the mind boggles – or should that read bloggles – at the thought:)
