The Rabid Right Resurfaces. This from today’s Indian Express:
Activists of ABVP, student’s wing of BJP, today ransacked the high security Vigyan Bhawan, the venue of today’s meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE).
The activists, who stormed the conference centre, smashed glass panes, broke flowerpots and shouted slogans against HRD Minister Arjun Singh in protest against the new national curriculum framework.
I suppose that, this is their way of making a point
I’m guessing they’re mad that evolution is being taught in the schools.
Actually heraldblog – evolution is not so much a problem in Hinduism. there are so many strains and streams & the fact that much of the “religion” is animistic that it really isn’t a problem here.
the problem is something else.
it is a bunch of rabid rightwingers deciding to rewrite mythology as history. more in terms of sanitizing right wing heroes, disproving aryan migration from the volga to the sub continent, the nature of the ancient Indian tribes, and so on. sanitizing and justifying the caste system and so on. very, very , scary and regressive stuff.
an equivalent of what is happening in the USA vis-a-vis creationism but not quite in the same areas, yet!
