out on bail
out on bail

…but out on bail on a personal bond.

The mark of a civilized society is that people are entitled to a fair trial. We are Independent. We have a Constitution. If some one is guilty, by all means arrest him/her/them. But follow due process. Don’t lock them up for years and not allow them bail. Justice doesn’t just have to be done, it has to be seen to be done. Not too much to ask for, is it?

From the tweets :

judge did not even want to hear prosecution lawyer! dismissed him in one sentence ‘bail granted’. Judge says Two years is too much.

Twice in a fortnight events that makes my heart bloom 🙂

  1. yup.
and Prasoon – all i know is that whoever it is – whether it is Kasab or Dr.Binayak Sen (and i am not comparing the two) – everyone in this country has the right to a fair trial.
we are not the Chinese, we are not the Taliban, we are not the Naxals, we are not the Nazis, we are the REPUBLIC of INDIA – and we stand for something. And, today is a vindication of that belief.
I hope that sentiment and emotion don’t get in the way of Justice for all.

  2. yes. the two years is two long – i hope that it becomes policy and precedent as far as under trials are concerned.
there has to be a limit for judicial custody -and hopefully this would mean that the system itself will get cleaned up. justice takes for ever to be delivered. The system itself needs an overhaul. you cannot keep having continuances – till people drop dead 🙁

  3. Chhattisgarh is home of the highest concentration of mineral rich deposits in the country and resistance to land acquisition by industrialists a major contributory factor to the violence in the state.Only a handful of journalists in recent years have actually met any Naxalites face-to-face. Getting to South Bastar is difficult enough, establishing contact far more tricky. The Indian media has for the most part kept its distance, prone as ever to sensationalism. A doctor fighting for healthcare for tribals has became more dreaded than a terrorist in our country.Qasab is getting more attention for his mideeds than Sen for his sacrifice in media, it appears irrational.Freedom of expression is the mark of a modern community, not buildings or technologies.
