Once, about 35 years ago, the city of Mumbai was dotted with cotton mills.
But, a combination of strikes, union leader deals with management, and the ultimate moving out of mills from Mumbai – left thousands unemployed, deskilled & unemployable.
Today, on the site of many of the mills stand the malls …. creating another labour class in Mumbai … albeit one without too many skills, and even fewer rights …
