Reading Recommendations 21st November

The Mint has a good interview with the Chief Economic Adviser, Arvind Subramanianif you are skimming over the article, be sure to read the part where he explains why he thinks there is weak demand – rural demand, oil prices, cost of capital demand.  Also worth reading how India became a favoured Investment destination. There is also a piece on how Mahindra is part of the Detroit revival story.

Two very good opinion pieces from the NYT – almost justifies the price of subscription despite occasional howlers like the silly piece on Indians and Saris. The first one looks at the myth of the Good Protest. The second at FB, As murmurs of FB’s role becomes louder, this is a good piece on why FB can’t be trusted to regulate itself.

The lock-jam in the EU over Brexit seems to be ending – except that no one is really sure which way it is ending. But, Britain finally seems to be realising that it no longer commands a position, but has to negotiate one.

If you thought that the Americans were kind of strange, here is an article that reinforces it. An anti-Trump hotel for liberals is about to hit Washington.

And finally, if you are a dog lover, or a science lover, or just a lover of well written pieces – here is one from the New Yorker, on Laika, the Space Dog.

and something to make you go “OMG ” – brilliant photofeature from Iceland. I want to get there just to see this
