A young American, Nicholas Berg - was beheaded today by brutal murderers, who claimed that it was in revenge for Abu Ghraib. They Said:
“For the mothers and wives of American soldiers, we tell you that we asked the US administration to exchange this hostage with some of the detainees in Abu Ghraib, and they refused.”
“So we tell you that the dignity of the Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and others is not redeemed except by blood and souls. You will receive nothing from us but coffin after coffin slaughtered in this way.”
Somehow this war, like all wars, has stripped any veneer of civilization from both sides - leaving each the mirror image of the other.
Both are fighting a righteous war in the name of their God - Allah or Western Style Democracy. Both are abandoning any rules of war. Neither has any concept of the life and dignity of an individual.
The Americans responded to the murder of 4 contractors by killing hundreds in the bombings of Fallujah. Wonder what their respnse would be at this. I hope that they remember that A life for a life leaves the whole world bereaved

“Take the worse case and multiply it several times over.” - Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore. on the pictures of abuse and humiliation from Abu Ghraib.
How much worse? I have, like millions of others, seen selected pictures in newspapers, television channels, and a larger selection on the net. My stomach churned when I saw them. And I really thought that there could be nothing worse than this in terms of what one human being can do to another to humiliate, abuse and torture them.
And now, there is a US senator, no less, telling us that this is just the tip of the ice berg. The mind boggles at the thought.

The RSS is getting into the Channel Business. It wants to launch a patriotic channel to give ‘marg darshan’ to the youth of today. . The Sudarshan Channel - i hope that it doesn’t go around in circles - wants to instil patriotic fervour in 45 million odd Cable and Satellite Homes.
The channel will be guided by the three fold mantra of Dev, Desh and Dharam - as opposed to TRP’s, advertising and subscription.
You need approximately 200 crores to launch and sustain a half decent channel that people might hop in and out of. I would be very interested to know who is funding this. After a channel which says that it’s idea of youth programming is
“a serious discussion of whether the Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan or was it actually a temple”
is not really looking at revenue. I really don’t see viewers tripping over each other to watch a patriotic channel.
